October 1, 2026 Diehl Aerospace, Oramach, Ivent Mobile, and Airspan Network today announced Diehl as a new partner in the Asymmetric Response European System initiative.

Asymmetric Response European System (or in short, ARES) is an industry initiative that targets to provide a pan-European platform for broadband communications, navigation, and sensing, to support public safety and defence operations across the entire continent, across the airborne, maritime, and terrestrial domains. The system is fully sovereign and combines satellite, Air-to-Ground, and terrestrial cellular technologies and is enabled by the 2 GHz frequency band, which the European Commission lately proposed to make available for such purposes.

ARES, a reliable, secure, and interoperable pan-European backbone, will support a wide range of mission-critical applications, including drone operations, aerial sensing, surface and undersea infrastructure protection, and border control. Based on an open architecture that allows leveraging standard industry components, the system supports rapid prototyping and quick development iterations, enabling to adapt to a quickly evolving requirements.

As part of its contribution, Diehl Aerospace will provide its High Performance Controller (HPC), which will operate as a Communication Concentrator Unit (CCU). The highly integrated HPC-CCU platform is designed to serve as a central communications and computing hub onboard aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial systems. HPC-CCU enables the integration and management of multiple communication channels and technologies within a single unit. Combining advanced processing capabilities with communications management functions, the platform supports seamless connectivity between airborne platforms and terrestrial and satellite-based networks.

“Europe needs to quickly establish new sovereign capabilities in response to fundamentally different and fast-evolving challenges,” said Robin Contius, Managing Director of Oramach. “Having Diehl, with its rich experience and industry-leading portfolio, join the consortium at this stage comes at exactly the right time as we move towards the implementation phase of this unique European initiative.”

"Reliable and resilient communications are becoming increasingly important for future public safety and defence airborne operations and digital mission environments," said Kai Burkhardt, Director Strategy at Diehl Aerospace. "With our HPC-CCU platform, we contribute a proven technology that intelligently connects different communication systems and supports the development of sovereign and interoperable communications capabilities in Europe."
